CAROL SHELKIN
 Contemporary Mosaic Art

About Carol  Exhibitions / Installations / Awards / Blogs / Publications

Carol Shelkin creates contemporary, original and intricate designs that eminent care and attention to detail with hand cut glass.

Taking to art as soon as she was able to hold a crayon, she started attending Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia.   It was made clear at a young age that her life would be centered  on her passion for art.

She continued her artistic direction with studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  After attending PAFA, she opened an arts nursery school/child care where she continues to work today.

Along with her school, she teaches a variety of art mediums to adults which includes mosaics from beginners to advanced levels in Pennsylvania and world wide.

Carol, also having a successful artistic career in painting and pottery,  has been accepting commissions and creating one-of-a-kind works of art that's displayed in galleries, community centers, libraries, commercial and residential settings.  She most recently, received a grant from The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to complete a community project enhancing the interior of The Schoolhouse Centers' art room where she teaches mosaics.

Carol has been published in an international portfolio of Mosaic Artist from around the world for the past two years.  She finds a very eclectic approach to surface design, placing glass where she, as a painter naturally places paint.

Carol has won honors and awards including First Place in the Faces Exhibition at Ciel Gallery. She is also privileged to be involved with an international collective mosaic to honor Steve Irwin which is now installed at the Australia Zoo and the mosaic collective donated to  St. Johns Providence Park Hospital in Michigan. There have also been many juried shows that she has been involved in including Mosaic Art International Exhibit in 2009 and up coming show in March 2010.

"I would like onlookers to discover my heart and soul in my work. I offer pieces of myself, working with texture, colors and art that has a personal meaning."  - Carol Shelkin
